Our team was asked by a client to create a device capable of sending messages using only light between a transmitter and receiver located at least 5 feet apart. In the end, we were able to design and manufacture a transmitter and receiver module capable of accepting user input to transmit and display 10 different messages at distances up to 60 feet by using in infrared laser and infrared receiver. The transmitter additionally used a stepper motor to precisely align to receivers located in all directions around it. I worked with the 3 other peers to ideate and implement design objectives, and my main contributions were to wire, code, and test the device. I was also assigned the role of team leader by my group which meant I worked to facilitate conversations, meetings, and project management tasks.
