Role: Ideator, Designer, and Builder
Over the course of two months, I constructed a 27 inch long, 32 inch wide remote control plane. In order to build the plane, I first sourced many different electronic and structural components. There were many challenges associated with this as I wanted to find parts which would minimize cost yet function cohesively to make a plane which could ultimately fly. I then started building the plane and performed fluid simulations in Ansys to optimize the airfoil shape while ensuring it could be easily manufactured out of the materials I had. Once I was confident in the design, I put everything together and performed tests to make sure the ailerons, elevator, and rudder moved properly so the plane could be controlled while flying. I lastly flew the plane which was capable of achieving liftoff from its own power and maintaining a controlled flight for 10 minutes.
